As a hospice nurse, I would regularly meet people who had big plans for retirement but got really sick just before retirement, or as soon as they retired. And ended up not being able to do the things they planned.
But I met a man once who really inspired me. Even though he became really ill at retirement, he followed through with his plans and went to the Vatican to meet the Pope
….. in his wheelchair…. and with his oxygen.
None of us knows what tomorrow brings. Which is why we should live each day as if it’s our last.
Yes….
Plan as if you’ll live forever, but learn to live day-by-day and make every day count.
And when your dreams and plans come crashing down, find a way to regroup and re-work your plans……. or simply make new ones.
From the heart of a nurse……..
