Many people feel as if they’re adrift in the world. They work hard, but they don’t seem to get anywhere worthwhile.
A key reason is that most people have no specific goals.
Goals are important……
And goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about your ideal future, and for motivating yourself to turn your vision of this future into reality.
By knowing precisely what you want to achieve, you know where you have to concentrate your efforts.
You’ll also quickly spot the distractions that can, so easily, lead you astray.
But before you set financial goals….
Create a vision for your life and clarify your values.
Quick question….
Do you know the difference between a goal and a vision?
Answer…..
Goals are specific accomplishments like buying a house or a new car.
Your vision is the bigger picture that includes these types of goals and why these goals are necessary.
To create a vision, include all your thoughts and feelings and all your hopes and dreams of the life of your dreams.
To clarify your values you must answer the question: what matters in my life? And….. why do these things matter to me?
Once you’re done creating your vision and clarify your values, craft your vision statement based on your answers, your thought and feeling, and your hopes and dreams.
Your vision statement will help you focus your time, money, and effort.
Everyone’s priorities are different……
So take time to do some research and make adjustments where necessary.
But if you have no plan and no goals, this may be a good time to start.
Your goals should be S.M.A.R.T – specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time sensitive. Start small and set realistic goals. Monitor your progress and adjust as you go along.
You probably won’t make perfect, linear progress toward achieving any of your goals, but the important thing is not to be perfect but to be consistent.
If you get hit with unexpected expenses and unfortunate life events, don’t beat yourself up. Just get back on track as soon as you can.
Each one of us has different aims in life, however, wishful thinking will not get you what you want; you need to stand up and take control of your finances.
Figuring out your objectives and matching them with timelines are keys to successful financial goal setting.
I look forward to hearing from you!!
If you found value, please feel free to share!!!
Until next time…..
