We’ve all been wronged at some point in our lives and we probably all have people in our life we’d like to strangle!
But forgiveness…..
“It’s one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.” – Maya Angelou
Forgiveness goes against human nature.
When we feel wronged, we hold out…. most often waiting for an apology.
But an apology is irrelevant if you struggle with un-forgiveness.
Here are 5 benefits of forgiveness:
Forgiveness is a gift you give to yourself.
“When you forgive, you in no way change the past – but you sure do change the future.” – Bernard Meltzer
Forgiveness is an act of strength.
“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is an attribute of the strong.” – Gandhi
Forgiveness is a sign of your ability to love.
“We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
When you forgive, you find peace.
“If you let go a little you will have a little peace; if you let go a lot you will have a lot of peace; if you let go completely you will have complete peace.” – Ajahn Chah
If you forgive, you will be forgiven.
“In this world, you are given as you give. And you are forgiven as you forgive. While you go your way through each lovely day, you create your future as you live.” – Peace Pilgrim
A beautiful thing happens when you forgive
It releases the person so he no longer owes you, but by releasing that person, you also release yourself from the chains of self-destructive un-forgiveness.
Choosing to forgive doesn’t excuse the wrongs done to us, or minimize our hurts
But whether it’s forgiving yourself or others, learning to forgive is good for both our mental and our physical health.
Finally…….
Forgiveness is a process, something you work hard at.
Learn to let go of the unhealthy feelings of anger and resentment and moved on.
“I believe forgiveness is the best form of love in any relationship. It takes a strong person to say they’re sorry and an even stronger person to forgive.” Yolanda Hadid
Until next time…..
