Why is it so difficult and why do we feel guilty about investing in and taking care of ourselves?
For most of us, taking care of others usually take precedence over taking care of ourselves.
But self-care is not about self-absorbed, narcissistic behavior.
Making time for yourself is necessary so that you can keep up with all your responsibilities.
Because you can’t give what you don’t have.
We’re all given this special house to live in, our own body, mind, and soul.
And it’s our responsibility to take good care of it and treat it with ultimate respect.
Because, within it lies your own special gifts and talents…. all uniquely yours.
When you find ways to enrich or change your life, a natural extension of that is to share with others.
Here are 7 things you do:
1. Adjust your lifestyle.
Give yourself time to adjust to your new way of life. Unhealthy behaviors develop over the course of time, so replacing unhealthy behaviors with healthy ones requires time.
2. Learn to prioritize.
It’s the old urgent-versus-important problem. We tend to get so caught up in the day to day rush that we fail to step back and do what’s most important. Most of us spend our time dealing with small, urgent issues when we should be focusing on what matters most.
3. Learn to pick your battles.
Anger, frustration, being overwhelmed… they are real to all of us. You need to learn where to draw the line between letting something go and engaging in conflict.
4. Eat right.
Eating right is very difficult and many of us are not eating well enough to get the right amount of nutrients from our diet. The best diet for YOU is the one that meets your body’s requirement and one that you can stick to long-term.
5. Exercise.
According to experts, your body needs 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise or 75 minutes of high-intensity exercise every week. Think of your workout schedule just as you’d think of any other commitment. Stick to it & reap the rewards.
6. Maintain a positive mental attitude.
Find daily quiet time and don’t forget to laugh! It’s great for your health and can help to relieve stress, boost brain health, lower blood pressure and improve your mood.
7. Be Thankful.
Every day, take a few minutes to list at least three things you’re grateful for. This will train your mind to look for the positive. Maintaining a positive mindset makes you more productive and effective.
