I was scrolling through my jobs benefit website and saw a Financial Wellness Assessment.
Curious, I clicked on it.
After reading the intro, I entered my information and got my results.
It only took a few minutes to complete
But it got my attention.
Since then, I’ve paid off two credit cards!
According to a new survey from CareerBuilder, almost 8 out of 10 American workers say they live paycheck to paycheck to make ends meet,
Another recent report said about half of American households have no retirement accounts at all. No 401(k)s, no IRAs, nothing.
And a 2018 survey reports that only 39% of Americans have enough savings to cover a $1,000 emergency.
The truth is….
Achieving and maintaining financial wellness is not easy.
But being able to manage your day-to-day financial life, absorb a financial shock and be on track to meet your financial goals are worth the effort.
Here are 3 things you can do:
1. Better manage your debt.
- Your monthly debt payments are costing you money that you could use elsewhere.
- Switch your spending from credit cards to cash or debit cards.
- Put a plan together to pay off your debts.
- Find tools and resources to help you create a plan that’s good for you.
2. Build your emergency fund.
- If you lose your job or an emergency strikes, would you be able to cover your expenses for 3-6 months?
- This is a very important plan to put in place, so find room in your monthly budget to set aside emergency savings.
- Another way is to set up automatic savings.
3. Save enough for retirement.
- Start now and make retirement savings one of your main focus.
- If you’re behind in your retirement savings, you may not be able to maintain your lifestyle in retirement.
- Increase your retirement plan participation by at least 1% every year.
- Consider opening a Roth or traditional IRA to increase retirement savings.
Financial wellness is not a one-time achievement.
It’s an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a more successful financial existence.
Financial wellness will look different for everyone.
Some days may even look different from others
But stay focus and be committed to the pursuit of your financial wellness goals.
The knowledge and ability to face financial issues with confidence coupled with better money management and planning can lessen financial stress and its impact on your health!
Until next time…..
I look forward to hearing from you!!
