Are you familiar with the story of David and Goliath?
Goliath was a giant and he was taunting the Israelite army.
He was trying to pick a fight but no one was willing to fight him.
They were too afraid.
Until David came along.
A shepherd boy, and the youngest of his brothers, three of whom were already in the Israelite army.
One day, while he was in the Israelite camp visiting his brothers, David overheard Goliath’s taunting and decided to answer
the call to fight this giant.
Long story short….
David stepped up and the giant was slain with a mere sling and a stone.
Great story. Strong message.
Today, giants come in different shapes and sizes.
Living from paycheck to paycheck . . . barely making ends meet.
Being unemployed or under-employed.
Family discord, loneliness, and addictions.
Struggles with health issues.
Just to name a few….
But there’s only one way to face them
With courage, confidence, and conviction.
The truth is, all of us are going to struggle.
All of us will suffer.
It’s unavoidable.
It’s not about preventing these things from happening, but rather having a game plan for how to manage, adjust and
overcome when they do happen.
Here are 5 tips to help you face your giant:
1. Refuse to be discouraged by your family and friends.
Sometimes their opposition is well intended. But other times, it’s the result of fear or jealousy. Expect opposition, plan and prepare for it.
2. Reinforce your focus.
Don’t focus on your giant, focus on the solutions.
3. Reflect on your previous victories.
Remind yourself of what you’ve been through and how you’ve overcome. Keep a journal and revisit its pages regularly.
4. Run towards your problems, not away from them.
Problems don’t normally go away on their own. And ignoring them won’t make them go away or lessen the intensity of the battle you’re facing. So face them. Address them. And figure out a way to solve them.
5. Remember what you are fighting for.
Every problem in life has something bigger attached to it. Be it your health, your finances, your family or your career. There is a reward waiting for you when you slay your giants.
Finally. . .
Don’t worry about what other people may think.
No one else can fight your battles.
You and you alone are accountable for what you do or don’t do.
The truth is….
Most people never really experience a shortage of opinions regarding what you should or shouldn’t do.
But don’t let that frighten you.
Be empowered that, in every battle you face, you have the ability to defeat every giant of debt, lack, sickness, despair,
discord, fear, or doubt.
Until next time…..
I look forward to hearing from you!!
