Let’s do a quick check up….
How is your monthly financial routine going?
Ok. I see that blank stare.
You either don’t understand my question
Or….
You don’t have a monthly routine
If this is going to be your year to shine, then you need to start off strong by committing to a financial routine.
The key to staying on track is…..
Keeping a close eye on what you’re spending and what you’re saving.
And keeping an eye on your spending and saving is easier when you make it part of a monthly routine. Here are a few easy steps to follow every month to monitor your progress and stay on track with your financial goals.
Before the 1st.
Heading into the month, plan ahead by setting your budget goals. Decide how much of your paycheck will cover fixed expenses, and how much will be leftover. Then, figure out which goals you want to allocate discretionary income to, and how much you’ll put towards each goal.
Week one.
Use online banking tools, personal finance app or good ‘ole paper to track what you’re spending, and what you’re saving. This helps you visualize where your money is actually going.
Week two.
Before you bump up your spending on payday, consider any big expenses on the horizon. Setting aside a little cash each month for a vacation or holiday gifts keeps your budget from taking a big hit in a single month.
Week three.
Check-in on your goals. Are you saving enough? Are you keeping your spending in check? If not, see where you can adjust for the last two weeks to hit your targets.
Week four.
How’d you do? Review your monthly statements and get a clear picture of where your money went. Reward yourself for your achievements and update your goals for the next month!
It’s easy to live life on autopilot. Just going through the motions.
But in order to avoid doing that and advance yourself personally, professionally and monetarily, you need to be intentional.
Being intentional is a big undertaking and requires time commitment, but with a few simple, daily actions you can set yourself up for success.
These aren’t shortcuts and will require some discipline, but they will pay off BIG!
Practice these Five Things Daily and you’ll see real results and opportunities coming your way:
- Learn. Set aside a few minutes daily to read, listen, watch and research.
- Do. Find ways to practice what you’ve been learning and hone your craft.
- Connect. Connect with people who are doing what you want to do.
- Serve. If you serve other people, it will eventually come back to you.
- Reflect. Take some time at the end of the day to reflect on what you did and write it down in a journal! Even if it feels like you only took one small step forward. Those small steps lead to big victories!
“A daily routine built on good habits and disciplines separates the most successful among us from everyone else. The routine is exceptionally powerful.” – Darren Hardy
