Life is unpredictable so we need to always be flexible and have a good attitude.
Although you need to cut yourself some slack sometimes, most of the time you’ll need to push harder and harder.
At no time though, should you give up!
Here’s the thing…..
The road to your financial goal…. any goal for that matter….. will not be smooth as silk.
Very rarely will any 2 months look alike.
Even with an emergency fund, there will be many life’s detours that you don’t expect.
Things like job loss, a bad break-up, a nasty accident, and unexpected health problems can turn your life upside down.
The fact is….
It pays to know what you’re working towards and have plans in place.
Like……
A budget, an emergency fund and plans for retirement and college fund.
Here are 5 tips to help you face detours:
1. Refuse to be discouraged. Detours are a part of life…. not optional.
We all experience them. So when they happen, keep your head up and look for opportunities.
2. Reinforce your focus.
Don’t focus on your giant, focus on the solutions.
3. Reflect on your previous victories.
Remind yourself of what you’ve been through and how you’ve overcome. Keep a journal and revisit its pages regularly.
4. Run towards your problems, not away from them.
Problems don’t normally go away on their own. Ignoring them won’t make them go away or lessen the intensity of the battle you’re facing. Figure out a way to solve them.
5. Remember what you are fighting for.
Every problem in life has something bigger attached to it. Be it your health, your finances, your family or your career. There is a reward waiting for you.
The road to financial fitness is not a straight line. It’s a winding path over hills and through valleys.
So be prepared for detours.
