We should all get to the place where the word NO doesn’t stop us in our tracks
And halt our progress.
Because NO doesn’t always mean denial.
Sometimes the goal we so desperately want is just waiting for us to grow into them
And, because we’re so focused on the outcome, we tend to miss a few vital steps
And delay our victory.
It took me a while to learn that NO doesn’t necessarily mean never and delay is not always denial.
But I still trip myself up from time to time.
Patience is not one of my natural virtues.
I tend to rob myself of potential growth and blessings when I’m not willing to go through the process.
So I need to be very intentional when things are not going as planned.
Here are a few questions to ponder….
- What if “NO” could actually be the most empowering word in the world?
- What if you discovered that right now…. this very minute…… you were only two letters away from greatness?
- Or just two letters away from a breakthrough performance?
- Or just two letters away from everything you’ve ever wanted?
For sure, a vicious cycle of NO’s can kill the spirit and crush the drive and ambition out of almost anyone
But, with a little change in perspective
We’ll find that within every NO is the information we need to move forward.
So…….
Here’s what you should do:
- Celebrate every no. Get off the “yes/no emotional roller-coaster” where every YES makes you happy and every NO makes you unhappy. When you look at NO positively, see the value in it, and celebrate it – this may take some time and practice.
- NO doesn’t mean never. – Don’t burn bridges. Try to stay in touch.
- A good NO is better than a bad YES. Embrace the concept that a NO isn’t particularly bad news, and become equally willing to hear either answer.
- Every NO is a chance to learn. NO is a perfectly acceptable answer, so get curious and casually ask “why was it no?’ Sometimes this will give you a chance to clear up some misunderstanding or you may learn something that you need to adjust.
Most people live in a world of “go for YES.”
They do everything within their power to get YES and avoid NO.
Instead, adopt the view that every NO is an opportunity
Until next time…….
