Recently a patient showed up at the back door of the ER…. at the ambulance entrance.
Her husband panicked and wanted to get her in fast. He figured that this entrance was the best way in.
He shouted, “she couldn’t breathe!”
We sprang into action….
I ran and got a wheelchair, security opened the door, we took her to a room closeby and put the oxygen saturation monitor on.
98%!
It took a while to calm her down and reassure her that her body is getting enough oxygen.
A few minutes later, I went in to start her IV and draw blood, and she looked at me and asked, “why do I need that?”
I calmly explained that the doctor will need “the numbers” to help determine the proper treatment.
In my line of work, numbers are very, very important.
So too with your finances.
In becoming financially fit, you WILL need to know your numbers.
Here are a few to focus on…….
- Monthly budget numbers
- Amount in your emergency fund
- The amount you need for debt payoff
- Amount going into your savings account
- Amount going into your retirement account
- Amount to spend
- Amount to give
There is no “one size fits all” here. Your journey is your journey.
You need to take responsibility and take control of your personal finances which will enable you to save and prepare for unexpected expenses.
If you mess up, don’t give up! Any progress toward your goal is counted as a success. Just get back on track as soon as you can.
Here are some tips to get started or get you back on track:
Get Organized
Take advantage of an organizational system and get organized. There are many free systems/apps available. Also, please consider buying a shredder to keep your personal information safe from identity theft.
Create a Budget
This will help you track your income and expenses to see how much money you have coming in and how much you’re spending. If you have debt, setting up debt pay-off in your budget will help you to pay down your debt consistently.
Follow a Proven System
The Baby Steps system is my favorite. (Duh)
Why?
“Dave Ramsey’s 7 Baby Steps will show you how to save for emergencies, pay off all your debt for good, and build wealth. It’s not a fairy tale. It works every single time!”
I couldn’t have said it any better.
Whatever you decide, here’s something to remember….
To succeed, you’ll need:
Education
Learn how to better manage your money.
Encouragement
Build momentum with small wins along the way.
Empowerment
Make financial decisions with confidence in every aspect of your life.
Sharing is Caring. If you found value, please feel free to share.
Until next time…..
