On my way home from vacation recently, as the plane got off the ground at JFK, the pilot advised us of bad weather ahead and instructed us to adhere to the seat belt signs.
Oh-oh, I said to myself.
I hate turbulence, and I hate roller coasters!
The flight was tolerable until we got close to Orlando. The pilot then said, “they won’t let us land due to the thunder storm, so we’ll hover over Jacksonville for a while.”
Crap!
The hovering was bad…. really bad…. at least for me and all the others who screamed at every bounce and the children who were crying and panicking.
Shockingly, one lady across the aisle kept sleeping. How is that possible? She must have taken something… the nurse in me said.
As we landed safely, we all cheered loudly. I’m surprised I didn’t break the handles on my seat!
And as I was getting off the plane, I held out my hand to the pilot, shoot his hands and said, “I was so scared.” He took my hand in both of his and said, “me too!”
Not so reassuring if he had shared his fear up in the air, but reassuring that he managed his fear and got the job done.
So can I….. so can you.
Although fear is a vital emotion, it can keep you stuck. So don’t let fear keep you from striking out.
From the heart of a nurse……..
