Do you feel sleep deprived and yawns a lot at your desk?
Here are 8 Tips to boost your energy and transform your body into a fatigue-fighting machine.
- Yawn away: yawning is your body’s way of “waking up” your brain by cooling it down. According to research, yawning is part of a suite of cooling mechanisms, much like sweating, that keep the brain functioning optimally.
- Get moving: a 10-minute walk will keep you revved for up to 2 hours. According to a study, results indicates that walking was associated with higher energy levels and significantly lower tension over snacking, which caused increased tiredness and reduced energy.
- Go to YouTube: it’s official…. you have permission to watch that dancing hamster video at work. A good laugh will pump you up when you’re feeling sluggish. Laughter raises your blood pressure and boosts your heart rate.
- See some red: spotting something scarlet can actually kick you into high gear. Research reveals that seeing the fiery color makes your muscles move faster and work harder, giving you a burst of energy when you need it most. So, keep a few crimson flowers in your line of sight to pep up a jam-packed day.
- Sprinkle these: not into espresso shots? Get your energy from chia seeds. They’re packed with a revitalizing combo of B vitamins, fiber, and protein, so they pick you up without making you jittery. You can simply stir them into your yogurt.
- Stretch it out: dragging? Try an invigorating stretch. Stretching stimulates the sympathetic nervous system so it energizes your body and mind. Here’s an example: Stand in a doorway, facing forward with feet several inches apart, and reach to the sides of the frame. Grab the frame with your fingers, then push your chest forward until you feel a stretch in your torso and back; hold for 30 seconds.
- Exercise: mentally, we feel more energized and ready to tackle the world after a good workout because endorphins boosted our physical energy level. The key is to find a workout that you enjoy, stick with it, and reap the ongoing benefits of a regular routine.
- Eat nutritiously: studies show that omega-3 fatty acids improve mood and brain function, helping you avoid a midday slump. If you’re fighting the urge to nap on your desk after lunch, stave off the afternoon slump by swapping your caffeine for one of these five light, low-cal bites. They’ll fight fatigue and keep you going between meals:
♦ 1/2 cup sliced banana (or a small apple) with 1 tablespoon peanut butter
♦ 4 whole-grain crackers spread with 1 tablespoon
♦ 1/4 cup dried fruits and nuts
♦ 6 ounces of plain nonfat yogurt mixed with 1 tablespoon granola
♦ A whole grain, high-protein bar
