Last week I showed up to work early and was floated (reassigned) to an area I haven’t worked in many, many years.
I was excited at first…..
But when I got to the unit, I realized I was expected to know how and what to do immediately.
Bummer.
So I voiced my concerns.
Long story short….
I was moved again to another unit, got there an hour and a half late, had a new patient waiting for me, no report on my other patients and multiple overdue medications and activities.
Double bummer.
I struggled for hours to raise the altitude of my attitude.
I almost cried and was tempted… only for a minute…. to just walk away.
But I hung in there…..
I kept reminding myself that there is a lesson in this for me.
Ugh….
It was not easy but the day ended well. I was mentally exhausted when I got home.
Don’t allow your attitude to spiral out of control.
I knew that
So at times while I was struggling to get my attitude straight…. I imagined Kurt Russel and Halle Berry trying to land the plane in the movie Executive Decision!
It worked!
It took my mind off my self-pity and I actually chuckled…. it was home straight from there!!
So…..
Be mindful of your attitude
And monitor your perspective
As the saying goes…….
“Life is 10 percent what happens to us and 90 percent how we react to it.”
We are each on our own journey…… learning, growing and dealing with hard circumstances.
Having a positive attitude doesn’t mean that you’ll keep your head in the sand and ignore life’s less pleasant situations.
Instead, a positive attitude helps you approach life’s unpleasantness in a more productive and positive way.
So, keep your chin up, smile as much as you can, and remind yourself that life is only as good as you make it.
“Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.” Khalil Gibran
I look forward to hearing from you!!
