If the fountain of youth actually existed, the skin care business would certainly cease to exist.
Aging, or “maturing”, is a natural process. Regardless of external factors or environmental influences, we have no control over aging factors that are a result of our genetic makeup. It takes an average cell about 28 days to complete its journey to the surface of the skin, then it is peeled off. In our early twenties, this process begins to decline “naturally” and by the age of twenty-five, the production of collagen and elastin begins to decline. Over time, this results in a slow decrease in firmness and elasticity and a decrease in cell turnover.
The aging process will vary in everyone due to age, activity, health, heredity, product use and lifestyle choices. The signs of aging are more visible in the skin than any other organ and is influenced by several factors including genetics, environmental exposure, hormonal changes and metabolic processes.
- Internal factors: fine lines and wrinkles, thinning of skin, loss of underlying fat, bones shrink away from skin causing sagging, dry itchy skin.
- External factors: sun exposure, facial expressions, gravity, sleeping positions, smoking.
- Lifestyle choices: smoking or excessive alcohol, diet, lack of exercise, exposure to cold weather, stress, lack of sleep.
By understanding the changes and the potential causes, you can develop a plan of action, products, ingredients, and treatments, to improve your skin and keep your skin as youthful and healthy as long as you can.
- The sooner you begin to care for your skin, the better.
- Promote healthy cell renewal by hydrating, nourishing and protecting.
- Do your due diligence. Research products and ingredients, learn the facts and talk with your professionals.
Bottom line, “aging” skin is not a disease, it’s simply a by-product of life. Establishing the perfect treatment plan includes proper consultation and analysis; attention to daily activity, medications, illness, lifestyle, product use and proper use. You don’t have to look your age or any older…care for your skin, and start NOW!
