Are you someone who is organized and able to get things done? Or, are you the type who appears busy but at the end of the day, has nothing to show?
According to the 80/20 rule, 80% of our effectiveness comes from 20% of our efforts. In other words, 2 hours account for our daily accomplishments and 6 hours are just fillers.
- Don’t let what you perceive as urgent crowd out the important.
- Learn to delegate
- Learn to ask for help
- Avoid clutter in your mind and in your work-space.
I am a big supporter of systems, to do lists and electronic apps that promote organization.
I love systems, processes, policies & procedures and materials that instruct. I currently work a full-time job at nights; I am an active entrepreneur and I am a caregiver to my husband. I live by a schedule for sleep, for work, for business, and for household chores and I pay bills using a budget. I print a monthly calendar one week before the start of the month and every Friday I print a schedule for the upcoming week with all the important items/events for that week. The Google calendar on my phone is my go-to app to capture all the important things on my weekly schedule.
Sounds crazy? I agree!! But my life would be total chaos without me being this organized. This helps me stay goal oriented and productive. I am also able to repeat what works or adjust what doesn’t.
Suggestions to help you accomplish more every day:
- Practice time management. Create a system whereby you can know where you should be at a given time.
- Maintain a to-do list. This helps you remember what you’re supposed to be doing.
- Avoid distractions. Avoid distractions & time suckers. Set aside time for social media and emails. Know when to disconnect from all your gadgets
- Apply the 80/20 rule. Focus on what matters most. Be intentional
- Plan ahead and prioritize. This helps you prepare for the unexpected.
- Create healthy habits. Rest, exercise, eat right. Keep your body nourished.
- Reward yourself. Set aside time every day to do something you enjoy.
- Don’t be afraid to say no
