You may know this already but I’ll tell you again…..
I was a hospice nurse for 6+ years and wanted to return to hospital nursing.
I thought it would be a breeze to make the transition
But even with a master’s degree and 30+ years of nursing experience, it took me 9 months to get a job.
I was actively looking and applying for jobs!
But no luck…..
No one would hire me straight into the ER where I wanted to work.
I was told that I had to go back through Med/surg…. first level nursing.
The funny thing is, many ERs were hiring nurses straight out of nursing school!!
It didn’t make sense.
Anyhooo….., that’s another story.
So I went back through med/surg….. because I was determined to get to the ER.
But after a year on med/surg, I took a job as a charge nurse on an orthopedic floor.
I decided to check out management while I was there.
I felt the need to put my master’s degree in nursing leadership and management to good use.
It didn’t work out.
I longed for ER nursing.
And although I gave it my all, I wasn’t in the right place.
So I finally made the transition to the ER late last year.
I’m now at the 6 months mark and I am thoroughly enjoying it.
It gets crazy from time to time but I’m back where I want to be career-wise.
And at this 6-month mark, I’m being promoted to charge nurse again.
This time in the ER
Sweet!
That’s the power of goal setting and hard work.
I shared all that to ask you this:
Do you know where you want to be financially?
If you have goals, are you working on them?
Or are you so far off in left-field that you’ve given up hope of achieving your financial goal?
Let me assure you, it’s never too late.
You may have veered off your path but you can make a few adjustments to get yourself back on track.
The thing is…..
You need to know where you want to be, know what needs to be done and be willing to do what it takes to get there.
If you don’t know where you want to be, how will you know when you get there?
Most of us have the best intentions:
…… we’re finally going to take control of your money.
…… get fit.
…… start a new hobby.
But here’s the thing, MANY of us won’t.
Good intentions won’t change anything.
You can make resolutions all you want. A resolution without a plan is just wishful thinking.
You need a vision….. and a plan
And you need SMART goals.
Ones that are…..
- Specific
- Measurable
- Achievable
- Relevant
- Time-Sensitive
Don’t get discouraged if you get off track. Life happens.
Stay focused, keep making small steps, and pretty soon you’ll be on your way to making a big life change!
With your ladder on the right building!!
Sharing is Caring. If you found value, please feel free to share.
Until next time…..
