Personal development sounds fantastic. I’ve been attracted to it for many, many years.
And so does waking up early, reading a book every week and eating healthy.
But until you actually take the first step to do those things….. wake up as soon as the alarm goes off, read the first chapter, or choose the salad over the burger….. the gap between knowing what you should do and actually doing them only gets wider.
The trick is to just start.
Here are 10 things you can do right now to improve yourself and your life:
Dream big. Success isn’t scarce. Give yourself permission to dream big and reach your biggest goals. Often the biggest obstacle is our own fear of failure.
Embrace optimism. If you’re struggling to see a brighter future, remind yourself that life and negative situations are cyclical. What was once the biggest problem in your life is now only a blip in your rearview mirror.
Level up. Take time to reflect on your life and ensure you’re living the best version of you. Who would you be if money, time, or other commitments weren’t a factor? What could you accomplish if nothing stood in your way?
Take stock. You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Who are those people in your life? Do they lift you up or drag you down? Evaluate whom you choose to spend time with, and make more time for the right ones.
Give up guilt. Give yourself permission to say no. If you’re a people pleaser, you’ll say yes even when you’re already overextended. Analyze the motivation behind your yes. If it’s guilt, it will only lead to burnout.
Give kindness. Reach out with words of encouragement this week. Kindness has a positive effect on both the giver and the receiver, so embrace the gift you give to yourself and others.
Find freedom. If you’ve been dreaming of leaving your job to follow your passion, stop dreaming, and start doing. Write down the next five steps and commit to taking the first one this month.
Continue learning. Embrace a student mindset. Sign up for one new class or online course this week. It might not benefit your career or make you wealthier, but it will increase your knowledge, which is vital to your growth.
Book it. “Travel more.” It’s a goal on nearly everyone’s list. Stop making excuses and book a trip that will give your brain and body a break from the daily grind.
Finally….. remember to be happy.
Doubt and fear are emotional enemies that will hold you back from achieving your goals. So, keep a list of your top three accomplishments and review them regularly to remind you of your worth.
